“Salish Sea” is a native-derived place name. It sounds off to me that you want to add “rewild” to “Salish Sea” because it infers that you want to rewild the indigenous experience when whiteness is what needs rewilding. “Rewild Puget Sound” sounds more like it’s about rewilding the colonial overlay.

Paraphrased from a conversation about the name “Rewild Salish Sea” versus “Rewild Puget Sound.” We talked about the colonial origins of the phrase “Puget Sound” and the complexity of the name “Salish Sea,” which is a phrase coined by a white professor of geography and environmental social studies from Western Washington University.

“If it is called Rewild Seattle, I might not go. It doesn’t sound like it includes any other areas and I don’t like going to Seattle.”

Paraphrased from a conversation with a Tacoma resident about the name “Rewild Seattle” versus “Rewild Puget Sound.”
